About Us
The Virginia Alpine Ski and Snowboard Team (VASST) at the University of Virginia is a ski/snowboard club that's all for good times and snow, though you'll find there is a whole lot more to us than that. All students are welcome to join; there are no tryouts or skill-level requirements! We average over 400 members yearly, making us the largest (and gnarliest) club sport organization at UVA. We go to Wintergreen Resort every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday during the season but save the weekends for competitions and free-ski trips. Additionally, we organize two teamwide trips yearly: one over Winter Break to Sunday River, Maine, and the other during Spring Break to various resorts out West (Past trips have included Park City, Jackson Hole, Telluride, Big Sky, and Aspen). However, things are not quiet in the off-season; VASST hosts numerous social events throughout the year. Our activity in the University community and beyond has made us one of the most social groups at UVA. All of this makes VASST unlike any other organization around; just let us show you.
Who is eligible to join?
Membership is open to University of Virginia students and staff only.
How do I sign up?
Signups occur once a year at the start of the fall semester. Visit the signups tab to be added to our interest mailing list.
Where do we ski?
During the ski season, we hold weekly practices at Wintergreen Resort, and races are held at various mountains all across the southeast. In addition, we take both an annual winter break trip up to Sunday River Resort in Maine and a spring break trip to a mountain out west.
I don’t have any previous experience in ski or snowboard racing? Is it still worth it?
Definitely! We love to help people start or improve their racing skills. Also, racing isn’t just about being on the mountain; race weekends are some of the most fun trips we take all year!

Can I join late?
No. We are unable to accept new members after signups have passed in the fall.
What does the ski and snowboard team do outside of the ski season?
Tons of awesome stuff! We have social events, compete in intramural sports, perform community service, go on outdoor excursions, and so much more!
I’ve never skied or snowboarded before. Can I still join?
Of course! Many of our members have no prior skiing or snowboarding experience, and we’re always willing to help people learn!
